Warkworth

Where is it?

Less than an hours drive north of Auckland on the Kowhai coast is the small friendly town of Warkworth.

What’s it like?

The town is a quiet place for most of the year but it springs into life when the yachting set hit town in high summer.

What to see and what to do.

There are nature trails most notably in Parry Kauri Park or the Dome Forest Walkway. The second is in an area that is being re-populated with trees (native Kauri) to replace those lost to logging almost 100 years ago. There is a small regional museum and for a full Kiwi experience visit Sheepworld.

Eating, drinking and sleeping.

There is a small amount of accommodation available and the food on offer is of reasonable standard but Warkworth is really a transitory place rather than a destination.
