Montego Bay

Located on a sweeping bay of blue water and sandy beaches this is a resort town. Montego Bay is the islands second city and is home to the tourist industry. The blue seas accommodate just about every water sport imaginable but the big attraction is the diving and snorkelling based around the coral reefs that lie just off the beach. The downside of beach life in Jamaica are the hawkers and hairbraiders all trying to earn a crust in a way that many find irritating. They are a fact of life in many Caribbean resorts and something you need to be prepared for. Some parts of the beach belong to the hotels alongside but there are three main public beaches all with decent facilities. The best sand and sea are to be found at Doctors Cave Beach but this is also where 'commercial' activity is at its most intense.

Further to the west is the newer resort of Negril. Set on a seven-mile long stretch of white sand this is an altogether livelier and more relaxed place than Mo Bay. The nightlife is great. After having seen one of the dazzling sunsets head for one of the many outdoor venues that offer live Reggae, the best to be found outside of Kingston.
