Africa Travel GuideAfrican OverviewA continent of extremes - deserts, tropical rainforests, mountains, savannas and farmland. Africa is a continent that can satisfy the adventurous spirit in everyone, go on a walking safari in the Luangwa Valley, a mountain trek up Kilimanjaro or a cruise down the Nile. The NorthThe continent where it all began is still largely untouched and unspoilt, with vast differences in people and cultures throughout it's many countries. From the northern countries of Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and Libya you can find ancient and medieval cities and monuments at Marrakesh, Fez, Tangier and Casablanca - and of course the famous ancient Egyptian pyramids at Giza. A romantic boat trip up the Nile from Luxor, the home of the Valleys of the Kings and Queens, to Cairo is a dream of many people. Central AfricaAlthough the central African states have had their share of trouble and political upheaval the rest of Africa, particularly the east, has a variety of interesting and exciting travel possibilities. Ethiopia has emerged from the 80s as a slightly off the beaten track adventure holiday destination, with ancient Christian civilisations and monuments, and the amazing mountain scenery makes Ethiopia a great, virtually unspoilt, country for travellers. The other two major east African countries for travellers are Kenya and Tanzania with fantastic game reserves and the possibility of shooting (with a camera only, of course) some of the last wild big game animals in the world. Southern AfricaSouth Africa is a country still coming to terms with its emergence from apartheid, but don't let this put you off. An amazing country with scenery and wildlife the equal of any African nation. Other countries worth a visit in the south of this huge continent are: Zambia and Botswana. |
